Yance Ford

Yance Ford is a New York based filmmaker whose feature-length documentary Strong Island (2012] investigates the murder of her older brother through archival footage, police reports, and family accounts. Raw and emotionally engaging, Strong Island was featured in IFP’s Independent Film Week in New York and was one of the seven films selected to pitch in the first Good Pitch Chicago in 2013.  Strong Island explores the emotional aftermath birthed from such a harrowing event: grief, confusion, and ultimately the sobering realization that this story is simply another American tale that has all too frequently played out before.

Ford is a Series Producer at POV, where she runs PBS documentary series’ Open Call

In 2012, Ford was chosen as a Creative Capital and Theo Westenberger fellow and MacDowell Colony fellow. Previously, she was named Filmmaker Magazine’s 2011 “25 New Faces of Independent Film.” She graduated from Hamilton College.
